• Robin Illian–Portland

robin-i-copySacopee Valley Birthing Services welcomed Robin to our team in 2014. Robin has been a home birth midwife in Maine since 2005 and joined Open Circle Midwifery in Portland Maine in 2007. She has a BS in Anthropology and Biology from James Madison University in Virginia, where she also completed a pre-med concentration with the original intention of going to medical school. With her interest in women’s health, and wanting to work more holistically with healthy women, midwifery was the perfect fit. After a short time as a hospital-based doula in Berkeley, CA where her spark for undisturbed birth was fueled, she began her training at Birthwise Midwifery School in Bridgton, Maine in 2002. She then worked in homebirth practices in California and Colorado before returning to Maine as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) in 2005. In addition to practicing homebirth midwifery, she is on faculty at Birthwise Midwifery School, and is a mom to three wonderful children. Robin loves being able to offer women empowering choices in childbirth, and to be witness to the amazing and transformational journey that is pregnancy/birth/parenthood. Robin lives in Portland and feels honored to be the community midwife, running into past clients at the Farmer’s Market and the library, and seeing those babies grow up.
