• Midwifery in Maine

    Maine has a long traditional of midwifery care including prominent historical figures like Martha Ballard.  For hundreds, and perhaps thousands of years midwives have welcomed babies here.  Now, midwives in Maine attend births in a variety of settings, including homes, freestanding birth centers, and hospitals.  In 2012, 1.6% of the babies born in Maine were born at home.
